This time of year, I’m always on the lookout for my favorite Halloween-ish movies and television shows. Have you seen any of these?
The Worst Witch: Mildred is a young girl at a prestigious witch academy. The headmistress of the school, Miss Cackle, has an evil twin sister who plans to destroy the school. Can Mildred foil the plan before the Grand Wizard comes to the Academy for the Halloween celebration? [description from IMDB]
Return to Oz: Dorothy, saved from a psychiatric experiment by a mysterious girl, is called back to Oz when a vain witch and the Nome King destroy everything that makes the magical land beautiful. [description from IMDB]
The Witches: A young boy stumbles onto a witch convention and must stop them, even after he has been turned into a mouse.
Unsolved Mysteries: I looked forward to watching this show at my neighbor’s house every week. Afterward, I would scare myself silly thinking about aliens and kidnappers as I walked from their house to mine.
Are You Afraid of the Dark: A group of kids (the Midnight Society) get together in the woods, and tell ghost stories. [description from IMDB]
Hocus Pocus: After 300 years, three sister witches are resurrected in Salem Massachusetts on Halloween night, and it us up to two teenagers, a young girl, and an immortal cat to put an end to the witches reign of terror once and for all. [description from IMDB]
I watched the movies below when I was in the first grade. Seriously, what was my babysitter thinking?!
Poltergeist: A family’s home is haunted by a host of ghosts.
Prom Night: A masked killer stalks four teens responsible for the accidental death of a child six years earlier at their high school’s senior prom.
Any of my favorite end-of-the-world movies will also do the trick!
